It was quite fun this week, Jim watching a movie based on one of my strongest love, and me watching a movie on Jim's strongest love. Now I would not consider myself a hardcore gamer like Jim but I do play my fair share of video games (Hundreds of hours on GT4, devoting a computer just to play DOS games, and calluses on my thumb cause I would hold accelerate on a joystick for so dam long). But hot dog was it fun to watch Steve go for the world record, I was rooting for that man who I barely knew.
Kill Screen coming soon!
The movie also shows Billy Mitchell, the previous recorder holder, and I tell you that movie really makes Billy look like a raging douchebag. Showing him off with his wife with surgically enhanced body parts, his attitude and words that have a double edge meaning to them. In the beginning, there wasn't much hate on him, but as the movie progresses, damn Billy is shown as the Devil. But can you blame Billy? A man is attempting to demolish the record he has proudly set back in the early 80's.
Anyways, the movie was real fun to watch and interesting. Showed a lot of Steve's struggles, his previous attempts, his life and family. You really get to know the man. Also you see the insides of the Twin Galaxy organization, who regulate and referee arcade game scores. And lets not forget that you see how Billy Mitchell is, love or hate him, he has a special charisma to him that cannot be forgotten. I overall loved this movie, would recommend it to any gamer, albeit casual or to the HXC bro. It is fun, interesting and shoots some nostalgia back into your life. Thanks for reading!
The best film I watched last year. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE King of Kong and have watched it probably ten times.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised you guys loved this movie. Makes me wanna go to the local pub and play some Pacman ... *runs out of the house with pocket full of quarters*
ReplyDeleteOh my God! I finally get the "Fistful of Quarters" reference!!
ReplyDeleteThere's at least one or two new challengers among these two. I think currently neither of them hold the record but I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteYeah, some totally new guy, Hank Chein, currently holds the record. It's gone back and forth between them a few times since the movie, but now neither has it. http://bit.ly/hGWXN0
ReplyDeleteI was suppose to watch this movie with you Puneet...you know who this is!!
