First of all, I want to say that I saw this movie on TV, so the commercial breaks kind of ruined it a little and I might have not gotten the best out of this movie. But I still liked this movie a lot. It is a typical classic western movie, and it feels just right. Listening to the epic background music, all the shooting and all the right lingo makes the movie feel complete.
The story was solid and quite addicting. It told about a young girl, Mattie Ross, who lost her father in a murder which she seeks vengeance for. She seeks out "Rooster" Cogburn (played by John Wayne) who is the roughest, toughest, rhooty-shooty and sometimes drunk marshal around. She loves his 'grit' and his ability to GIT R DONE. They go on a quest with La Boeuf (seriously, this guys name is french for Beef, how awesome), who is also looking for the same man Mattie is. And this is about all I want to say about the story of the movie, how amazing right?
So God Damn Manly
I think the only downfall of this movie is that it might be a tad bit to long. It runs at about 2 hours and 8 minutes, where some of the scenes are a bit dragged out. But the parts that aren't dragged out aren't necessarily action scenes, but good and solid. Besides that small fact, I can't say there is much wrong with this film.
To round up, the whole cast acts well, and when John Wayne acts like a drunk, it is quite humourous. And there is a whole lot of classic western movie feel in this movie. On a side note, this movie makes me want to play Red Dead Redemption. With the story being so solid, it leaves you on the edge of your seat. I totally recommend watching this movie before checking out the new True Grit out in theatres.
Also, John Waynes is God fearingly awesome!
I really need to add this to my watch list as well, if anything just because i loved the remake and trying to watch more western stuff.
