The first reason I was so surprised about this movie is obvious, they are killing thousands of dolphins every year. If I can recall correctly, the number was 2000 dolphins. That is a huuuge number, my village where I was born had less humans than 2000 and I am from one of the densest countries in the world. It was hard to grasp this movie because of how extreme it is. Most of the time I was thinking, this is just a bunch of paranoid crap that a bunch of left winged hippies are talking about. Like how can they keep a secret this big for so long? And this leads me to the other surprise of the movie.
Which is simply, the way the documentary is presented. It feels like a thriller, there is a long and huge build up for a single moment. The movie says this, best way to describe what they are doing is to think of them as the Oceans Eleven crew. They build up this fairly big group of people all with different skills and attributes to make a heist, which is to set up movie cameras everywhere around the cove without being detected. They do this so they can bring up some evidence on the killing of these dolphins. The movie dives deeper into the corruptions of many organizations including the International Whaling Committee and even the government. It is sickening.
To sum up, I really am filled a bunch of emotions; shocked, mad, but mainly I feel horrible for us humans. It is mainly due to the fact that I have been watching a lot of these documentaries about the destruction of some kind of species. I want you all to watch the movie, but I warn you there is some graphic footage and it is not for the squeelish. There are things I have seen in this video that make lemon party G rated.
And again, if you want to learn more about the killing of dolphins check out the documentary's website here: http://thecovemovie.com/

“And those who dismiss love for our fellow creatures as mere sentimentality overlook a good and important part of our humanity. But it takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal. And it is actually within us to grant them a happy life and a long one.” – Joaquin Phoenix | quote from EARTHLINGS
One of the most powerful films I've ever seen and yet at the same time it makes you feel utterly helpless. I'm very proud of the folks involved in the movie for going to such lengths to reveal this tragedy.
