Today I continued my Alien Trilogy by watching Alien3, and now I have been told to lower my expectations for this movie. And I did so, hoping it would still allow me to enjoy this movie. I am glad to see that Sigourney Weaver comes back for this movie, though not to be rude, but her age is catching up to her looks. Click the jump to see if I actually liked the movie or did it flop.
I don’t normally do this, but one of our readers Wesley (Snipes) has been wondering what I thought of the first 15 minutes of the movie. So I will literally be writing the article as I watch the film. Okay so the credits are rolling and every so often a short clip of the alien face hugger is attacking the space ship whilst everyone is in stasis. After a few unimportant names go by, the space ship releases a shuttle into some planet filled with dudes with double Y chromosomes. To summarize: most annoying opening credits ever. These short glimpses of actual movie are just a nuisance; I am not getting anything out of this, so annoying. Urg, either show the credits or the f’in scene. Don’t combine them, you are just agitating me *twitch*. Okay so now that Ripley lands on the planet and found by a watch man. They search for more folks but nothing. Later a computer screen now shows that Ripley is found and alive. Whereas, an unknown female of the age of 10 (Newt) and Hicks is both dead. Well I guess if you can’t hire them back for another movie, just kill them off. Too bad I liked both Newt and Hicks. She later wakes up in a hospital bed being treated for her injuries, a boring and horrible introduction.
Different species with the same DNA.
To stay on the topic of boring, generally this movie is quite boring. The first hour of this movie was the best anesthetic I’ve ever felt in my life and I’ve had under sleeping gas at the dentist. The script was terrible, the movie did not seem to go anywhere and the characters were stale, like stale bread. But after that one hour hump, the movie got a bit more interesting, but not a whole lot. It seemed like they tried to combine the first movie and second movie. Too bad they combined the worst of the first movie and none of the second movie (mainly because Aliens was all good). Seriously, why didn’t Weaver stop and realize this movie is garbage?
The only real positive aspect of this movie is the fact that the story continued along real nicely. But too bad the plot development was weak and just plain sucked. There is nothing more I can say about this god awful movie. Though the final boss ‘fight’ was entertaining, it had the alien cam, which is just fish eye vision with blur effects. It was used when the alien was chasing down the bait prisoners. I thought this was a bit entertaining and pique my curiosity. But it wasn’t the best.
To summarize, I am sorry I didn’t like this movie at all. I really wanted to, trust me. But maybe watching the series in a row wasn’t the best idea, I still had the first two fresh in my mind. So I was still comparing this movie to the first two. I bet if I saw this movie separate from the others, I wouldn’t have hated it as much. But now I don’t feel like watching the last movie in this series, all I can hope is that it is a mindless action movie, something I can enjoy. Not some hybrid mix of garbage suspense and tacky action.
Best line: “Credits: (In order of appearance)”
Best part: The final boss ‘fight’ scene where they need to trap the Alien in the mould.
When I first saw it and they'd killed Newt and Hicks I was so damn angry. You're so invested in those characters after the second movie and to just kill them off was bad form. Especially as Michael Beihn doesn't exactly get offered a lot of great roles.
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed the rest of the movie though, although it is the worst of the three. You're doing well to avoid 4, because that's even worse imo.
Ahh the fourth isnt so bad... it has Ron Pearlman in it!
ReplyDeleteIt's kinda a stupid plot too but there are some cool scenes in it. I personally liked it better than 3.
