Force Fed Films: "The Crow"

I made a comment on crows a few days ago after watching Ong Bak 3. I stated that crows are lame, and I still stand by that comment. I like birds and all, but crows do not interest me at all. Stupid black bird, but this leads me to the movie Jim is making me watch today. And it is, you guessed it, “The Crow”. I have never heard of this movie before and so I do not know what I am getting myself into. It stars the late son of Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee. And a member of The Ghostbuster, Winston, well the actor is Ernie Hudson, but Winston is such a cooler person, no offense.

For those who haven’t seen the movie, the story is interesting. It starts with both Eric and his fiancĂ©e who are both murdered by a bunch of street punks. A year after his death, Eric rises from the dead and is allowed the gift of invincibility by a crow. This crow also guides him along and helps him seek his revenge on his murders. I like the story, it’s unique and different. I don’t know if it is good, but the way the story unfolds is good.

But who I really liked was obviously Eric, or The Crow. He reminds me of a hybrid mix of Sting the Wrestler and The Joker from Batman. He is a bit crazy and very violent, somewhat like The Joker. And I love the way he kills his murders, by the sheer irony. He takes their life by the way they have lived, for example the gangster who loved his knifes, got 5 of them in his chest. I’m not sure if the actual action scenes were good, the movie was really dark so I didn’t know what was going on sometimes. But from what I saw, they looked nice.

The Crow's Signature, pretty awesome if you ask me.

I really didn’t have any complaints about this movie besides it got boring a few times, I found myself dozing off a bit. Not that this was a bad movie, just didn’t hold my attention for too long. I did like the acting, at first I was put off by Eric, but eventually you fall into his charm and cheer for him. I liked Sergeant Albrecht (Hudson), he played his cop role real well and when he pulls through for Eric in the end, yeah really got to commend him for that. He reminded me of Gordon from Batman.

Overall this movie was good, but that was it, just good. There wasn’t anything too memorable about it but nothing to hate a lot of. I still think crows are stupid birds that I will pay no attention to. I guess the only movie that creeped me out with crows was Jeepers Creepers. So sad this was the movie that Brandon Lee died on set of.

  1. Funny that you mentioned Sting. Before the second Crow movie came out, Sting had a colourful look to him. They got Sting to play the Crow for the second movie and after that Sting changed him look to the Crow outfit for wrestling.

Here's a vid of his old look.
