Looking back on this week, there have been a lot of 80’s movies, not that this is a complaint or anything just pointing out some obvious facts. And I doubt Jim did this on purpose, but I was forced to watch another 80’s flick, “They Live”. Now I have no clue what this movie was about except that this movie had a whole lotta lines that Duke Nukem uses. Now as a fan of the Duke, I couldn’t wait to see this movie and was hoping for some fun ol’ 80’s time! Click more to see how much I enjoyed the film.
To be honest with you, I think this movie would be a lot more fun if you folks did not know anything about the story. And I had loads of fun not knowing what this movie was about, and it really made it better. But if you really want to know what happens, here it is. George (Roddy Piper) is a drifter; he finds a job at a local construction company where he tries to make ends meet. As he sleeps on the streets, he finds a few other homeless people acting suspicious. His curiosity leads him to discover pair of sunglasses that help them see the secret of the ‘others’. It is up to him to bring down the ‘others’ with help with his fellow drifter Frank (Keith David).
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum!
The action in this movie is phenomenal! Not because the effects were amazing or anything, and to be honest the effects sucked. But because the gun fights were just over the top and plentiful, it really satisfied my lust for blood. There is one fist fight scene between George and Frank which had to have lasted a solid ten minutes and it is one hell of a fight. It isn’t one sided, there aren’t any camera effects to dramatize the fight, just a good raw fist fight between two working men. And the point of the fight was that George wanted Frank to put on the glasses, and Frank refused, this leads them into a brawl.
This leads me to the characters of both Frank and Kevin, I thought the acting of the characters was good, but the action scenes were a bit cheesy. As in, the way the people die is just over acted, yes I know that I am just nit picking, but I really cannot think of anything bad to say. I liked the two because every working man, or anyone that has been down on their luck can somewhat relate to their struggles, AND THERE IS A WHOLE LOTTA ASS WHOPPING!
Overall, I had a lot of fun with this movie. It wasn’t a masterpiece by far, but it was entertaining and thrilling. I wish there were more of this movie, it felt a bit short but short and simple is great to see once in a while. If you want to see an over the top action movie with fun one liners, go see this movie.
Wait, who the hell is Kevin?
