I’ve been meaning to watching “Predator” for a long time now, and now because I should be catching up to trilogies, this was a perfect time to see it. I had high expectations for the first movie, it has Arnie, a sci-fi-ish movie and almost everyone I have talked to has said this movie is amazing. I also think this is one of the first movies I see with Arnie in an action movie and not those kiddy movies like “Jingle All the Way” or “Kindergartener Cop”. Anyways, after the jump I tell you how I felt about this movie.
I assume most of you know the story to this movie so I won’t get into too much detail. Just Dutch (Arnold) and his special group of army men are sent in for a rescue mission. Little do they know is that there is something that is following them and hunting them down, one by one. The movie’s concept of the hunter becomes the hunted is cool and it kind of feels like a David vs. Goliath feeling. But yes, the thriller aspect of this movie is awesome, I was clinging to my seat anticipating the next scene.
It's not a tumor!
What I liked about the overall theme of the movie is that it was both an army movie and a sci-fi, a beautiful marriage if you ask me. This brings be back of why Aliens was so great. But to back away from Aliens, I’ve done way too much with that series. But yeah, the action scenes were amazing and fun, to see everything blow up and sparks everywhere, it really gets my testosterone churning. And greatfully they did not overdo it on the special effects. Albeit the effects on The Predator were cool, the chameleon effect and the glowy green blood. And the look of The Predator was so sweet; he looked badass, scary and “One ugly muthafucka”.
This brings me to Arnie, god damn that is one cool man. Like I said before, this was one of the first Arnie action movies I’ve seen, besides the Terminator. He had so many one liner, and moments where I was laughing and going, YEAH THAT’S AWESOME! “GET TO THE CHOPPA” or “Stick around” after Dutch throws a machete through a man and sticks him on a wall. I think my favourite part was when Dutch and
Dillon meet for the first time and Dutch says, “Dillon you son of a bitch” and they handshake which turns into an arm wrestle mid shake. “You’ve always know when to quit”. Just awesome one liner.
What I commend in this movie is the ability to beat the test of time, even though this movie was filled with ‘80’s cliché and really did feel like an 80’s movie, there was no tacky feeling. I just really liked this movie, maybe even more than Aliens just because it has Arnold, the gummybear of Calicornia. But it was filled with great moments and great one liners. I’m glad I finally saw this movie, can’t wait for more Predators.
And remember kids, “If it bleeds, we can kill it!”
Dude, this is one of your first Arnold action movies!? You must see True Lies pronto my good sir! Awesome mix of comedy and action and directed by James Cameron. Definitely my favourite Arnold movie.
ReplyDeleteThough if you wanna stick to Sci-fi Arnold. Total Recall ("See you at the party, Richter!"), or The Running Man aren't too shabby either.
Don't worry Neil, I have a special month dedicated for Arnie.
