Throw Back with Fast Times at Ridgemont High

‘Sup dudes? Hope y’all been hanging ten. Anyways, I just finished watching “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” which I had absolutely no clue what this movie was all about. But from the looks of it I am the last person in the world to see an iconic movie, again. I am glad I am finally getting around seeing some of these 80’s films; I finally am getting some of the pop culture references in T.V shows now a day. But enough about my lack of 80’s movies I've seen, click the jump to find out about this flick, dude.

For the few that haven’t seen the movie, the story is quite simple. It follows the children of Ridgemont High, a high school in a small suburb of California. Though the movie deals with a lot of teenage drama, it seems to centre on Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn), a typical high school stoner/surfer dude. And I’ve been told that Penn started the stoner cliché with this role, this is not a surprise, and he was awesome dude.

Dude man, Jeff was like the gnarliest guy in this movie duuude.

I really liked this movie, for a few reasons. It was simple, great characters and funny. Now when I say simple I mean there wasn’t any complex story, plot or underlying meaning. I mean, this movie was meant for stoners it couldn’t have been hard to get. And this leads me to the sense of humour, this movie's humour isn’t big Ha Ha, but I smirked a lot in this movie. I think this is why I liked it so much. I had a grin throughout most of the film, was never bored and was always entertained. I do a lot of the parts with Jeff and his pothead buddies. But the laughs don’t end with him, all the characters were awesome.

This leads me to the characters, as I said before, they were all too funny. And the movie was pretty stacked with stars: Judge Reinhold, Vincent Schiavelli, Jennifer Jason Leigh and of course there is a 2 second cameo by Nic Cage. AWW YEAH, best two seconds of the film? You betcha! In all seriousness, I loved both Jeff and Brad (Reinhold), they were both funny in their own ways and kept me entertained.

I cannot really find anything wrong in this film, a fair warning: don’t watch this with your little cousin. It has a lot of topless girls, but again nothing wrong in this movie. I loved it and for those who haven’t seen it, it should be up there on your list of must watch. Cheesy 80’s humour is always wanted for my viewing pleasure and this fills it perfectly.

Stacy has it going on...
