The Man with No Name Trilogy: For a Few Dollars More (1965)

Today I continue my foray into the spaghetti western world with the sequel to Fistful of Dollars. This time we find our hero has found his place in the world of bounty hunting. His quick skills with a six shooter serve him well and he's really bringing in the cash. However, he's not alone. There's another bounty hunter on the trail of the same bandit he's set his sights on, and it's clear that this guy is just as good of a shot, if not better! Is this town big enough for the both of them? Find out after the jump!

Ok, so that line is from a different western, but it still applies here. The tension between "The Man with No Name" and the newcomer is palpable. Constantly at odds, but technically on the same side of the law, they form an uneasy partnership. They're out to capture or kill a recently jail-broken mad man who is planning a robbery of the most fortified bank in the area. He's got a bounty of $10,000 on his head, so this one might be too much even for them.

The Rival, Colonel Douglas Mortimer
This movie is easily better than Fistful of Dollars. All the complaints I had with the first movie have been addressed in this one. The English dubbing, while still present, is done much more effectively, only leaving a few times where it might be distracting. Also the pacing of the movie is much better. More action, more shooting, more dialog and more characters keep the movie moving well. The story even keeps us moving from town to town as the two leads try to take down their mark and his gang of bank robbers. All other aspects of the movie are well done and I can't really think of anything to complain about.

For a Few Dollars More is an easy recommendation. It's better than it's predecessor in every way. Acting, characterization, story, plot, cinematography and even the action scenes are all improved and I enjoyed every minute of it. It's quality movies like this that make you fall in love with an entire genre of film. I can't wait for the next movie in the trilogy, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. It's hard to imagine it being even better yet again, but from all accounts, it is. Should be a good one!
