Reader Recommendation: Walace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)

Another reader submitted movie today in Walace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit! This one really caught my eye as I remember loving the other shorts and movies in the Wallace & Gromit franchise. I've seen all the others and just never got around to this one and since completely forgot about it. But thanks to twitter friend and site commenter @wideawakewesley who brought it back to my attention, I get to have a few laughs with characters from my youth and share it here with you. More of that after the bunnyhop jump!

Wallace, a cheese loving inventor, and his ever faithful dog Gromit are always getting into absurd situations. This time around is certainly no different. The story picks up a week before the Totington Giant Vegetable Competition. Wallace has cornered the market on pest control, protecting the entire town's gardens from vile, veggie munching bunnies. He of course does this with the most crazy, yet wonderfully amusing inventions the world has ever seen. However, with only a few nights left before the big day, a terrible beast brings chaos to the small town, and threatens to have the big competition canceled. The story is suitably crazy and that's just the way it should be!

The Wallace & Gromit series is created entirely with stop-motion. The level of detail in the look and motion of the character's clay models is fantastic. This gives it a great look and character designs unique to this series. The style really gives it that physicality that is sometimes lacking in other animated movies. It also lends itself perfectly well to all the wacky contraptions and slap-stick style comedy.

To put it simply, Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit is a damn fun movie. The story may be a little on the simple side, but the action is always way over the top! You can't help but like the goofy characters, the jokes will make you laugh and puns will put a smile on your face. Or at least they'll make you groan and shake your head at them. But always in a good way.

  1. Glad you liked it Jim. It was the funniest movie I saw in the cinema the year it was released.

  2. I really liked it also. I remember seeing three of the short Wallace and Gromit stories a long time ago so I was pretty happy to have this come out.
