Today I got the fortune of watching
Unbreakable, another M. Night Shyamalan movie, FML. At least it was an older movie of his, so I did have some hopes for this movie to be good. I do love the fact this movie has both Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. Sorry, I can't explain to you how awesome those two guys are, plus there really isn't much explaination on why this cast is awesome. Jim made me watch this, and I haven't even heard about this movie previously, so again going into this movie blind I just hoped for the best and expected nothing amazing. The basic story of this movie is that David (Willis) and Audrey are going through a bad marriage and they are trying to keep it together for their son Joesph. David gets into a train derailment and he is the only survivor in the accident, not only is he the only survivor but he escapes without a scratch. This is where he meets Elijah (Jackson), who suffers from some type of osteoporosis and is nick named Mr. Glass by the kids. Elijah, who runs a high end comic book art gallery, explains to David that they are the opposite but so alike. He later tries to convience David that his gift is special and to benefit from it. Thats the bases of the story, anything more and I would feel like I might give away some spoilers. But I like the story a lot.

Not sure exactly where to start off explaining this movie, I will start off by complaining and bitching about this movie. This movie draws out too long, I really don't like how this movie takes so long to explain the littlest things. And I get it, the movie is building up tension and what not. But it felt more like it was just moving along slowly and progressing no where than just a build up. There were parts of the movie, I just started to think. "What's happening, what am I suppose to be getting out of this scene, and damn my leg itches". Though the movie does pick up later on, I felt like it was too late and they just rushed it all in.
What I liked about this movie was all in the last 30 minutes. Holy Twisty McGee, this movie has amazing plot twists that I did not expect. I had suspensions, but the faintest of them. I won't tell you what the twists are, but they were good and well placed. I also liked the scene where David is discovering his super strength power, his son keeps adding on more weights to his dad's bar as he does bench presses. They are amazed at how much he can bench. I just felt that scene was real smooth and well done, you really see how close the father and son are.
Overall, this movie was alright. Nothing ground breaking, though I am surprised this M. Night movie was good, I still liked The Signs better, I love aliens. I am not sure if the 1 hour and 15 minute build up was worth the final 30 minutes of the movie, but some of you will get a kick and others will find it boring and slow.

I'm actually kinda shocked at how much you didn't like it. One of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI really loved this movie. I didn't know what to expect before I watched it as I didn't know who M. Night was.
ReplyDeleteYeah I am sorry guys, just this movie did not do anything for me :(
ReplyDelete2 I thought this movie was awesome... went into it totally blind. It was a superhero movie but it took place in the "real world."
