Part two of this amazing mini-series, today I watched "The Black Hole"(2006). Now as a physics geek, this title kind of got me interested, I was sure that I might be able to pick out some interesting parts of this movie. Too bad there were a lot of times I was yelling out, WTF THIS ISN'T SCIENCE! I mean, if the movie is going to suck, at least have some of the facts straight. But hey, if this movie is a straight to TV movie, I really can't expect quality. Though I will tell you about how this movie compares to the other terrible movies I have seen this year.
Okay, so in comparison to all the other terrible movies I have seen. This movie probably has the second best polish to it, second to only Death Race 2. The acting was okay, the story sucked and well the production was meh. Let me start off with the story, it is quite simple. Some scientists are playing around with a heavy particle accelerator and while doing a routine task, they find a radation leak. So 2 of the 3 scientist go down to find out what is happen. They find this small black hole which is sucking in everything. Thereafter, this alien made out of electricity (I am not even joking) comes out of the black hole and vaporizes the two scientist. The army and secret services come in to stop this situation. The alien escapes and travels via power lines to suck in more and more power. The scientists find out that the alien is sending the power back to the black hole which in turns makes the black hole bigger. And it is their goal to save humanity by destroying this alien. I have nothing more to say about this story, because it sucks and it is lame. I mean snoozefest here.
Let me get one thing straight, if a black hole ever appears on Earth in St. Louis, by the laws of gravity, it will not just keep growing on the surface. It will in fact grow and move its way into the center of the earth, that is how gravity works. Also, when the main actor travels toward the black hole and passes the point of no return, where even a full size van gets sucked into the black hole, can he just simply grab onto a pole and survive not being pulled in. There were too many plot holes in this movie to list (I guess that is why they called it "The Black Whole"). Though seeing the Gateway Arch being demolished was pretty cool, even though it was all CGI. And for some reason, the movie pulls clips from what appears to be another movie for a whole 5 minutes? Lazy SOB's.
My final thoughts? This movie sucked worst than any other movie I saw this year. Even though the acting was okay and the CGI effects weren't cheesy. The story was boring, there really wasn't anything exciting in this movie and everything was predicable. I can only recommend this to an insomniac, for this will help him fall asleep.
