New Trilogy time: Alien

I have started to watch a new Trilogy, I had a hard time picking because there are so many out there, but I decided to pick the Alien trilogy. I was quite excited for this one, more so because it has Aliens in it, how awesome. Now because I knew so little about it, there wasn’t any expectation for it besides it is going to be awesome. Click more to see if this movie lived up to its only expectation.

If you don’t know the story to the movie I’ll give you a short explanation. Basically a mining ship is rerouted from its destination to Earth to a nearby planet, which was sending out a distress call. The crew investigate the planet and found a spaceship in which they enter. One of the crew members gets attacked by a small alien who attaches itself to the crew member's face. As they take the crew member and quarantine him, the alien dies and detaches itself from the host. Later the host dies while eating dinner and a small alien comes out from inside his body. As he roams the ship, he unleashes terror amongst the rest of the crew. The story kind of reminds me of Jaws, but in space. Which I might add is an awesome idea.

Aliens are cute, 'till they come out of your chest!

The only big problem I had was that the movie started off slow, and I found it real boring. But after the movie got settled, the pace picked up and I enjoyed it all. There really isn’t much to sayabout this movie’s flaws. There aren’t a whole lot and they are just so minor, who really cares. The only reason I was bored in the beginning is that because I have the attention span of a gold fish. Most folks might find the beginning as a good build-up of story and leads to a grand movie.
Obviously the best part of the movie is the actual alien itself. It is damn creepy! Another part of the movie that I liked, and this is a spoiler so for the one other guy that has not seen this movie, please advert your eyes. I loved the twist on Ash; I did not see that coming at all. But I liked that he was this robot that was sent on the mission to make sure the Alien gets back on Earth safely. This brings me to another point; I liked the acting in this movie. You can easily tell each crew members job on the ship and their characteristics reflect that. I thought the acting was amazing and were very believable. It would have been cool to see a bit more action, but the alien’s acts of murder were cool enough.

Overall, I loved this movie, not as much as any of the Star Wars’ but it was still amazing. I am real excited to see the next movie; hopefully it is as good as this one. I have been told that this series takes a dive which I am not looking forward too, but hopefully I can work around that because I have no idea why the movies take a dive.

  1. I'm surprised you are only now getting to see this classic sci-fi/horror movie. It set the bar for it's genre. It's a bar that's really yet to be challenged. The second movie is great too, but different. I hope the differences won't disappoint you. I actually like Aliens better than Alien and put it in my personal top 10. I can watch it over and over (and have).

  2. So glad you picked the Alien series. I'll be surprised if you don't enjoy Aliens more than this as it's faster paced with more action, where as Alien 3 is a bit more like the original movie. Very interested to hear what you think about the first 10 mins of Alien 3 too.
