Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Now I do know that this will surprise a few people but this was the first time I have watched “Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope”. Yes yes, pick your jaws up. It is not because I hated the Star Wars franchise, I just have never came around to the opportunity to see them. Though I have seen “Star Wars Episode 1” and I didn’t hate it, I just did not care for it and it probably had sullied the image for Star Wars. So I am doing it now. I am going to watch all of the movies in order and enjoy it like many of you have. Now I am not sure how to go on and writing a blog entry of something everyone but me has seen so this shall be interesting.

It is weird to watch a movie that I’ve heard so many jokes about and seen way too many movie references about it. I pretty much know everything that is going to happen in the movie, so there isn’t much of an element of surprise to it. But interestingly enought, I still found the movie really catchy, my eyes were locked onto the screen and never did they wonder away. I especially loved the final battle; it was super cool to see space ships fight in outer space and battling. Even though the special effects were a bit dated, they didn’t annoy me at all. The pews of the laser guns and the woamm of the light sabre were hilarious but felt so right.

Oh! I really loved Harrison Ford in this movie. Loved his character, his acting and just everything, he was my favourite human character. But easily my favourite characters were obviously R2-D2 and C3PO. They were just hardwired bros, I’d bet if R2-D2 had a fist, the two would brofist constantly. I also really found Princess Liea fun to watch, mainly because she was not what I expected. She was a hardnosed, brute princess and she could kick ass. Oh and the weird creatures you see were crazy. I loved the Jawa traders the most, not exactly sure why. They are not that important in the movie but something about creepy hooded creatures that sell scape parts, awesome.

Love at first holographic sight.

What kind of disappointed me was Darth Vader, I was expecting an eviler being and for him to be in the movie more. Though he probably comes up more and more as the story goes on. I also found it funny that the Death Star was this grand and amazing space ship with this pretty big weak spot in it. Again, I know this was just for the movie but just funny to think about. And the death of Obi-One Kenobi was anti-climactic. I was hoping for a fight on a more grand scale, the fight seemed weak hearted and again I am comparing this to the fight in Episode 1. But all these disappointments were because I’ve heard about this movie being amazing in every way, people have exaggerated parts of the movie and I was expecting that. And I am pretty sure if I saw Star Wars before people ruined the movie for me, I wouldn’t have cared so much for the flaws that I see now. So I blame my friends for this.

I am real glad I watched this movie, I finally get some of the jokes and references that people will shout out. I cannot wait to see the next two movies, I’m sure the story will feel even more epic and grand as I progress.
