Over the weekend I went to the local music store and picked up an album that I was waiting for, on my way through the blu-ray isle I found this little movie: “Lemmy”. Now for the few that don’t know me, I think this man is God. The music he made and the impact this man made in rock ‘n’ roll history is astonishing. Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister is one of my all-time heroes.
When I picked this documentary up, I was expecting to see the history of Lemmy and his main band, Motorhead. But this movie was less the history of Lemmy, but his lifestyle right now. It was real cool to see his life right now and what he is still doing. What I really commend is how down to Earth he seems to be. You’d think some of that glory must have gotten to his head, especially when he is known for having bedded over 1000 women. He goes on saying that, “1000 women over 35 years is not a lot of sex a year.” Also the fact that he has made over 20 albums with Motorhead, most of them a success! And I must add, if you are still living the rock ‘n’ roll life by the age of 60, you are still living the high life in my books.
Throughout the documentary, a lot is covered in only 2 hours. A few things were rushed, but a guess this was a real good intro for anyone wanting to know a bit about Lemmy. They go on and talk about his brief history in Hawkwind, troubles with drugs, the formation of Motorhead and Lemmy’s ideologies of life. I find his ideologies the most interesting by far, he talks about everyday things in this weird perspective and it is real unique to say the least. There are clips of him talking to Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) and Billy Bob Thorton and they are just talking about anything, and it’s just really cool to hear him talk about nothing in particular.
All that man needs is a smoke in one hand, and a Jack 'n' Coke in the other.
A lot of other famous rock/metal stars are present talking about Lemmy’s greatness and their experiences with them. I really dig that kind of stuff; you will never get another chance to hear some of these stories that were just passed down by word of mouth. I’ve only seen the main documentary, but the blu-ray cover says 4 hours of extras and there are a few things that I really want to see. I did pay $40 for this blu-ray, I have only seen the main doc, and I already think I got my money’s worth.
If you are into rock, metal or just want to know about his legend, this movie is a total watch. I think the only ones that would buy this blu-ray would be heavy Lemmy/Motorhead fans, and it is totally worth it. This movie is totally a niche thing, but I enjoyed it and I am sure you will too.
