Force Fed Films: "Ghost Busters"

Before you guys get crazy, yes this was the first time I saw “Ghost Busters”, yes Jim had to force this movie on me and yes I do regret not watching this movie sooner. But I’ve never had the chance, top quality b-list movies fill up my time. But I was slightly scared to watch this movie, after hearing all the hype, the pop-cultural references and hopefully even with all the spoilers the movie will be amazing. Details after the jump.

I am sure there is no point for me to retell the story because I assume most of you have seen it. But for the few (and unlucky) who haven’t here it is. Basically, three of the weirdest scientists you will ever meet lose their grant from the university in NY in the studies of ghost, spirits and all that hoo-ha. With the money they have left over, they purchase a rundown building and start up their ghost busting business. They terminate these pesky and annoying ghosts, spirits and even that damn bogey man. Well, all until the worse appears and a gateway to another dimension is opened ups and wreaks havoc on NY. So who do you think they called?

First thing I would like to say about this movie, holy cow this movie is so 80’s. It is filled with the most stereotypical 80’s cast, CGI and music. Let me talk about how awesome this cast is, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and even the beautiful Sigourney Weaver. They were just amazing in this movie, especially Aykroyd and Murray. Those two had me chuckling through the whole movie, Murray plays Dr. Peter Venkman and he is this show-off that is arrogant, egotistical and really lame with love. But his quirky remarks are just hilarious and wonderfully timed. And on the other hand we have the exact opposite: Dr. Raymond Stantz is this shy but over eccentric individual who loves everything that is out of this world. He best describes most of us as a little kid, running around chasing after ghost and goblins.

I like my Destroyer *cocks shotgun* extra creamy
And Weaver was amazing! I mean, when she was possessed by Zuul and was wearing that outfit, hot dog that was hot! First she gets possessed by a spirit than to top that off, she gets impregnated with an Alien baby. Talk about bad luck! But besides that, she is wonderful to watch as the damsel in distress.

This might be out of place but I really want to talk about the music. I loved everything I heard from: Disco Inferno to Ghostbusters. It really was the icing on the cake; the music was awesome and just filled the movie with the 80’s mojo. I was hopping around and bouncing my head, I really like 80’s tunes and these were some fine tunes! Also, I’ve obviously heard the Ghostbusters sound track before, but when hearing it more thoroughly during the credits, one of the lines was “Busting makes me feel good”. Truer words have not been said!

And as bad as the special effects were, and I mean they are super out dated, it was alright because again it really makes me feel like I am reliving the 80’s. Well pretending to relive it, because I never lived the 80’s. But the ‘steams’ that they shoot out are really cool, and teach you a vital lesson. Never cross streams!

I'd be your keymaster =D
Look I will agree that it was silly of me to hold off on seeing this movie. And it was good to finally see Ghostbusters. I am real eager to see the second one now. And yes, I totally loved this movie with its 80’s flair.
