Back in October we got an email recommendation from Pedro F. Pardo. One of the films he suggested was The Wages of Fear which sounded like it could be really intense. It also caught my eye because it was an old 50s movie that I have never once heard of. This could very well be a nice little hidden gem that I would otherwise never have heard of if it wasn't for Pedro's recommendation, so I was excited to watch it. I finally got a chance to watch it (sorry for the wait Pedro), and that just leaves me to tell you about this French/Spanish/English/German/Italian/Russian speaking film you've probably never heard about. Is it worth the tracking down you'll have to do to see it? Find out after the jump!
We are just a couple dudes, watching a movie a day and ranting, raving or just telling you about it. Everyday!

Force Fed Films: Metropia (2009)
Today Puneet decided to use my as a guinea pig and told me to watch Metropia which was recommended by @scoobydiesel a little while back. It seemed to have a very weird, but interesting animation style which made it stand out. Such an odd looking movie could be anything, so I really didn't know what to expect, especially since the cover shows his head opening up and a little dude sitting inside it! I really didn't know anything about this movie other than a few screenshots, and I didn't even recognize any of the actor's names. If this strange looking movie intrigues you, I'll give you the insider story on what I found right after the jump!

In the Mouth of Madness (1994)
For today's "Halloween Movie Marathon" entry, I decided to watch a movie a friend handed to me just today when we met up to see Real Steel. I had already planned on seeing John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness at some point this month, but having it handed to me certainly made the decision easy for me.
My exposure to this film is no more than a single picture from the movie, but when I saw it, I knew I had seen that image before. Not that I'd see the film, but it was like hearing a line a dialogue quoted from a movie. Then again, considering the theme of this film, maybe I'm actually going mad. Hit the jump to find out for yourself.

Starting October Off Right with Trick r Treat! (2008)
Today is the first day of October, and the start of my "Halloween Movie Marathon!" At least, that's what I like to call it. I figured I'd start it off right with something perfectly geared towards the spirit of the season, and threw on Trick r Treat. I should mention that this was also highly recommended by twitter user @kendralynneee. In fact I think I've seen her mention that she's watched it multiple times within the past few weeks. Well I figured if I was going to watch her recommendation, I should save it for the right time, and that was today! Hit the jump, ring the door bell, say "Trick r Treat" and I'll give you my thoughts on it!

Reader Recommends: King Arthur: Director's Cut (2004)
Today I decided to watch another recommended movie, once again from @Qu33n0f633k5. I had actually heard that King Arthur, while reviewed poorly when it was out in theaters, was a far better movie in it's Director's Cut version. The combination of recommendations spurred me on to seek it out, the Director's Cut version of course. What I've heard of the differences is that several scenes were added back in that build the characters better than in the theatrical version. I've never seen the original release, but on the other side of the jump, you can find my impressions of the Director's Cut.

Reader Recommends: All the President's Men (1976)
Today I reached out into the Twitter-verse and asked for a quick recommendation. @2dreviews, who you might remember did some guest writing for us in the summer, replied in a matter of seconds that I should watch All the President's Men. Having never even heard of this film, and seeing that it starred Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, I knew this had to be a good one for me to watch. It wasn't until I started it up that I realized it was about how two reporters broke the Watergate case on Nixon! Wow, I sure didn't see that coming! Hit the jump to see if this was a tension filled thriller, or a total snooze-fest.

Reader Recommends: Repo Men (2010)
I wasn't really sure what to watch today since I made such a bad choice yesterday. Luckily I didn't have to decide on my own, and got some help from twitter user @Qu33n0f633k5 who said I should watch Repo Men starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker. Of course I actually only watched this because I had already seen her first suggestion of Repo! The Genetic Opera. Now there's a weird movie! If you want to see a creepy messed up musical, can't do better than that one. At any rate, since I had already seen Repo, Repo Men would have to make due. Check out my thoughts on this futuristic thriller on the other side of the jump.

Reader Recommendations: The Evil Dead (1981)

A close friend of mine decided that I haven’t lived a fulfilling life because I haven’t seen “The Evil Dead”. And after watching this movie, it is sort of surprising I’ve never even heard about this movie before. 80’s zombie horror flick seems like the right choice for me. But any who I was for warned expect a lot of cheesiness (like as if that was a bad thing) and enjoy the underlying humour. God this sounds like a movie that was made just for my enjoyment. But see if I actually enjoyed it after the jump.

Reader Recommends: The Scientist (2010)
A good friend of mine suggested that I watch The Scientist, so today, while entertaining friends, I mentioned it and we decided to throw it on and see what it was all about. I had been warned that this was a slow movie, and that it was all for a pay off at the end. It had been described as a "thinking man's" movie to me. This sounded pretty good to us. I liked movies like Primer and The Man From Earth so I thought this would be another to add to that list of interesting indie movies that are more about the thought experiment than anything else. If you want to hear my thoughts, just take a jump to the other side.

Reader Recommends: Juno (2007)
A little while ago I was asked if I'd seen Juno, and if I would see Juno. I've been putting it off because I honestly didn't want to see this movie. I've been putting it off and putting it off, but I finally decided to get it out of the way. So today I watched Juno. Just like most people, I had been hit by the exhaustion of seeing Michael Cera act in the exact same way in every movie, all the time. That changed with Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, but this film is from back when he was still just being that same boring, shy kid. I'm also not a big fan of Ellen Page, so those 2 things combined into me going into this one not looking forward to it. Find out if and how those thoughts influenced me during the movie after the jump.

I went hysterical with The Room (2003)

I usually don’t do house calls for movies, but today @sepictor and I got together and watched “The Room”. It all started when I was told to watch this movie for its sheer terribleness. It was popular for being the worst movie ever. But there was no way anyone would want to see this movie by themselves. That is why I watched this movie with a man foolish enough to see this too. I’m not entirely sure how to write a review on the worst movie in the world, but here I go.

Reader Recommends: The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
Today I grabbed another recommended movie, again from @tokenuser. This time it was The Last of the Mohicans. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this one, but I certainly recognized the title and the cover of the movie. There was a time when a lot of films focusing on the same subject matter seemed to come out, and I always get them mixed up, this being one of them. It's because of this reason that I really haven't seen many films like this one since there didn't seem to be much to make it stand out from all the others in my mind. Well @tokenuser certainly changed that by recommending this one specifically. Find my thoughts after the jump.

Reader Recommends: Ronin (1998)
A long time ago I got a recommendation from @tokenuser on twitter to watch Ronin. I wasn't sure what it was, but guessed it would be a ninja or samurai movie, based on the name. Boy was I wrong. Once I looked into it after going through my huge list of recommended movies, I saw that it was a crime movie starring Robert DeNiro and Jean Reno. Well everyone knows how good DeNiro is, and after seeing Leon the Professional I had to see more Jean Reno! I have to admit, I had some very high hopes and I was quite excited to see it. Sometimes this can work against you, but it would be hard to be disappointed by these two teamed up. Jump into action!

Learning to Deal with Death in The Fountain (2006)
There was only one Darren Aronofsky movie left that I haven't seen: The Fountain. I really liked Black Swan, and I thought The Wrestler was good, but depressing. I wasn't a fan of Pi, but Requiem for a Dream is good. While I've had a mixed reaction to his films, generally they're on the positive side of the scale, which gave me hope for The Fountain. Even so, I have heard people say both really positive, and really negative things about it. Which side of the argument will I end up on? To learn that answer, you luckily won't have to fly to the other side of the galaxy, but you will have to make your way across the jump. See you there!

Reader Recommends: Tangled (2010)
Today I decided to knock another movie off my recommendations list. Tangled has been most recommended by my friend @Foebeard, but I think I've had its named dropped from some others as well. I've also personally wanted to see Tangled for quite a while, so it's almost not a recommendation since I would have seen it eventually on my own. I was really disappointed that I didn't get to see it in the theater in 3D, as I had heard it was pretty good in that respect. One of the things I was curious to see was if there would be anything obviously done for 3D but was now pointless in a 2D viewing. My impressions after the jump.

Reader Recommends: Chocolat (2000)
Awhile ago I got the recommendation to watch Chocolat, and I found out that my hosts have the DVD here, so it because an easy matter to watch it. Before sitting down to watch it, I had the idea that this was a pretty magical movie about magically powered chocolates that made people fall in love with each other. Sounded pretty odd, but I had to admit that would be an interesting twist on the romance genre. Something I didn't know was that Johnny Depp was in this movie, and he's always so wacky and funny, so that gave me yet another thing to look forward to. Those who have already seen this movie may already see where this is going. For those who haven't, I'll explain after the jump.

Reader Recommends: Dog Soldiers (2002)
Today I choose to watch another movie recommended to me by a few friends. The first person to tell me to watch Dog Soldiers was twitter user @wideawakewesley, co-host to the awesome Media Pulp podcast, who asked us to do an interview on the show (episode 5). By pure co-incidence, I then also saw the DVD on the shelf at a friend's who then gave it to me to watch. I'm quite a fan of werewolf movies, and so this sounded right up my alley. Hit the jump to see if it was everything I thought it would be.

Reader Recommends: Death at a Funeral (2007)
Today I took the recommendation of one of my best friends to watch the original British version of Death at a Funeral. It came out in 2007, and was actually remade and re-released in 2010 for American audiences. But that's not the one I saw. It was insisted to me that I watch the 2007 release. So that's exactly what I did. I had heard this movie was quite good, but what I was most interested in was the fact that Peter Dinklage and Alan Tudyk were both in this. I generally love them in whatever they're in, so I couldn't wait to see what their roles would be here! More after the jump!

Reader Recommends: Six String Samurai (1998)
Many moons ago, a good friend who goes by the twitter handle @sniperct responded to one of my first requests for movie recommendations. His suggestion was that I watch a movie called Six String Samurai. I of course had never heard of this movie, but who was I to turn down a music themed sword swinging samurai movie? Heck, I loved the Samurai Champloo anime which can be basically summarized in the same way. Well it took me about 6 months, but I finally sat down to watch it. I'm sorry it took so long... but I'm also sorry for what I'm about to say. More after the jump.

Reader Recommends: Immortal (ad vitam) (2004)
In my efforts to somehow catch up to all my recommendations, I picked a film sent in my twitter user @MAJikMARCer. He said I should watch Immortal (ad vitam). It caught my attention because the IMDB pages talks about it being the year 2095 and a huge floating pyramid space ship filled with real Egyptian gods shows up over New York City. Who wouldn't want to see a movie with that description?! There's also a pretty good looking woman with blue hair and face paint on the cover. That's not too bad either. Are you curious now? Hear all about it after the jump!
