Poll Position: "What Lies Beneath" (2000)

When I initially saw the trailer for “What Lies Beneath”, I was partly turned off. It screamed boring thriller at me with a played out story of happy couple suffers unholy bad luck. But nevertheless the movie needed to be watched. Thankfully enough two amazing cast members were staring in this movie; Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer. Though I am starting to doubt even a great pair of performers can save this severely boring looking movie. More on this after the break.

Happy "Halloween"! (1978)

If you're at all curious why I watched the poll winner a day earlier than normal, here's your answer! Of course, never having seen John Carpenter's Halloween before, I had to save it until the actual day itself! Thus, our Halloween Movie Marathon comes to an end. I got a lot of classic horror movies I've never seen before finally taken off my list of shame, and it seems kind of ironic that I end with a film that basically started the entire "slasher" genre, having come before all others of it's kind. This is also the film debut of Jamie Lee Curtis, which caught me by surprise. Hit the jump for my thoughts on this classic slasher flick!

Poll Position: What Lies Beneath (2000)

I watched the final Halloween poll winner today, so that will be the end of the seemingly permanent placement of Critters, Ghoulies, and Puppet Master. I'm sorry to those who wanted me to watch those ones. There did seem to be at least a few votes every week for them, but they just never got enough to win. The winner this week was What Lies Beneath. This is a ghost movie starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer. I really wasn't sure what to expect, the trailers made it seem pretty subdued. But you chose it for the poll, and so I must fulfill my duties to you, the reader. Hit the jump to see if this is a movie ghost fans should check out, or if it's something you should just let lie.

"Vampire Kiss" (1988)

After watching a short clip of Nic Cage moments, I was instanly struck by his performance in "Vampire Kiss". It's so raw, passionate and speaks to me in so many ways. Actually it's none of that, he acts batshit insane and I love it! I couldn't even fathom how a movie could be built with these scenes in it. Why did he call out the alphabet in a fit of rage? Why did he run down the street yelling "I'm a Vampire" repeatedly? All I know is, he is the great Nicolas Cage and I got to see all his crazy antics.

"The Shining" (1980)

"The Shining" was a movie I've been desperately been trying to watch this month. There have been so many pop culture references to the two girls, the trike riding boy and of course "Here's Johnny!" phrase that I knew I had to see it. But I've never knew what "The Shining" was all about. Will I be scared out of my mind? Psychologically disturbed? Or just plain bored from the slow pacing of Kubrick's style as a director?

Universal Monsters Presents: Frankenstein (1931)

For my second film of the day, and in an attempt to see these last few classics before the month is out, I watched Frankenstein. Released the same year as Dracula due to that film's phenomenal success, it was made very quickly. Starring Colin Clive as Dr. Henry Frankenstein, and Boris Karloff as The Monster, this is yet another massively famous film, and held up on high for it's place in history for horror films. Once again, my main interest is to see what the movie is like in full, and if it holds up so many years later. Hit the jump to find out.

Universal Monsters Presents: Dracula (1931)

Before Halloween is out, I wanted to make sure I had seen some of the most classic monster movies I could. I started the month with Nosferatu, and I've waited almost the whole month before attempting to watch director Tod Browning's Dracula. I have plans to watch another Universal monster movie today, so I got up early so I would have the time. This unfortunately worked against me when combined with some other factors which I'll explain after the jump. So how does this, the most classic of all vampire movies, hold up 80 years after it was made? Hit the jump and find out!

The Changeling (1980)

October is drawing to a close, and I only have a few days left to watch any ghostly, spooky, creepy, and generally scary movies during the most appropriate month. Of course I realize that I can still pop in a horror movie after the big "Boo" day is done, but it just won't have that special significance. Maybe I'm just thinking about it too much. Also, I'll be happy to watch a movie that isn't necessarily trying to scare me, or throw blood in my face, once November hits.

For today I choose to watch The Changeling. Of my remaining possible films, it seemed to have the most potential, and a few people recommended it given the selection I had to choose from. Hit the jump to hear about this chilling ghost story!

Force Fed Films: Saw (2004)

For my final Halloween themed Force Fed Film, Puneet had given me Saw to watch. I've only ever seen Saw II, but never the original. I was worried how good it would be considering what I know about the series already. Even if what I know is minor, it might just be enough to spoil some of the movie. For example, I know what the mastermind, Jigsaw, looks like. I've even heard whispers about aspects of some of the Saw films, although I'm never sure which film in the series these different whispers are for. Even knowing some potential spoilers, I was really hoping Saw would be a cut above the rest. Hit the jump for my thoughts.

Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988)

Originally I had planned on watching a different movie today, but after yesterday's success with Hellraiser, and a night filled with dreams, nightmares, and images from the movie, I knew I had to watch Hellbound: Hellraiser II today! None of the movies I've seen his month had the effect on me like Hellraiser did. I wasn't sure what to expect with the sequel, but I had heard some people actually liked it more. This did, however, mean my expectations were raised (no pun intended), while they were possibly lowered before yesterday's viewing. Can the sequel that came out only 1 year later really be better than the original? Jump into Hell with me and we'll find out!

More fun with "Evil Dead 2" (1987)

I saw “Evil Dead” back in August and was thinking I should see the complete trilogy right away. But knowing that October was around the corner, I decided to wait. Now that I’ve finally seen the second movie I can now truly understand the amazement of Bruce Campbell.  That man is a God in all sense, but more on him later. Oddly enough, I still wasn’t sure what this movie would entail. It would be only foolish to assume that the sequel is just like the first movie. So after the jump I kindly explain to you how much I enjoyed "Evil Dead 2"

Exploring Pain with Hellraiser (1987)

Today I decided to finally experience one of the last big iconic horror movies: Hellraiser. If I'm honest with myself, I really wasn't in the mood for yet another horror movie. I've really been starting to feel the weight of almost only horror movies all month long. But there's only a few days left that I can actually pick what I'm going to watch, and I wanted to make sure I had this one under my belt before it was all over. I figured it would be yet another slasher movie, with a demonic twist, maybe something like Nightmare on Elm Street. Turns out that's really not what it was like at all. Hit the jump for the full scoop!

Poll Position: House (1986)

Thank you to everyone who voted for House. Not to be confused with another movie with the same title I watched back in March, Nobuhiko Obayashi's 1977 film House. While we're at it, not to be confused with the TV show about a doctor either. This movie was actually originally recommended in the comments of my review of the 1977 Japanese film by @staciedenola. I have to admit that I forgot about it, but when I was researching Halloween movies, it came back to me. I remember being a kid and wandering the aisles of the video store, and seeing the VHS of this movie with the creepy hand ringing the doorbell. It freaked me out and fascinated me all at the same time! Hit the jump to see if it can still freak me out so many years later when I finally get to watch House.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

Today I decided was a good day to watch another classic horror movie, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I remember when the remake came out, a friend of mine was quite excited for it because he liked the original so much. Afterwards he told me that it just didn't hold up when compared to the film that started it all. I've never been into the torture style of horror. Movies like Saw, Hostel and this one have been movies I've tried to avoid as much as I could. While I don't mind when monsters rip a man apart, there's just something inherently disturbing about a man ripping a man apart. Today I decided I should steel myself and watch this horror classic that may have inspired all those others.

Now Playing: Paranormal Activity 3

Being a big fan of the first two Paranormal Activity movies, I was of course very excited to see Paranormal Activity 3. I'd also like to say I avoided ALL the trailers for this movie before seeing it! I like seeing these kinds of movies in the theater because you get a good group atmosphere going and when the big jump scares happen; everyone jumps, people shout or scream, and then there's that great nervous laughter immediately following that says "Hey, you're not the only one that jumped!" Also you get the great sound system of the theater to boost the scares and the subtle creepy sounds. But, all that doesn't really matter if the movie is no good! I slapped my money down on the counter and bought the tickets, and I'm here to tell what my experience was like so you can decide if you should put down your own cash.

"Doom" (2005)

Video game movies are usually a terrible idea. 9 out of 10 times they wreck the image of their respected video game. But I still decided to check out “Doom” for nostalgia reasons. I’ve loved the Doom series since the initial release in ’93, it has been one my favourite games and by far the scariest game I remember playing. Pixelated horror continues to creep me out. Hopefully the advanced CGI doesn’t ruin the scare factor that much. This is my thoughts on this spooky movie.

Going Insane with Jacob's Ladder (1990)

Today I decided to watch a bit of a cult classic horror film, Jacob's Ladder. This movie was also on a lot of top horror film lists, but judging from a few screenshots they'd often have with it, I knew this one was going to be pretty messed up. Messed up in the sense that it deals with a guy either dealing with mutilated demons, or he's totally going crazy, or maybe a bit of both. I was just hoping this didn't end up like another Session 9 film, where it's all hype, but no payoff. Hit the jump and I'll try my best to convey this movie's insanity to you.

Force Fed Films: Stephen King's Pet Sematary (1989)

For those of you who have been reading my work for the whole year, you may recall that every few months Puneet threatens to make me watch House of Wax. Not even the original, but the remake with Paris Hilton. Today was nearly that day, but he changed his pick at the final hour to Stephen King's Pet Sematary. That was a close one! I remember trying to watch this when I was much younger, but I never made it through the movie because it was too freaky for me then. I'm sure I've since seen far worse, so I wasn't worried this time around. What I had done though, in place of the movie, I read the book, so I at least knew what I was in for. Hit the jump to see if I made it all the way through this time.

Forced Fed Films: "The Mist" (2007)

Yes, you guys got it right. It is an all Stephen King Thursday. And I am ashamed to admit this but this is my first Stephen King movie. But luckily Jim recommended a good one for me, "The Mist". Kind of excited knowing that Mr. King is one of the top horror story writer. But enough about how anxious I am, lets find out what I thought.

Stephen King's Silver Bullet (1985)

I decided to squeeze in another movie today for two reasons. First, because Teen Wolf was so disappointing, and second, because I have too many Halloween movies I want to see before the month is out. For those reasons, I decided to watch Stephen King's Silver Bullet in an attempt at getting a somewhat good werewolf movie tonight. Silver Bullet brings an interesting combination of today's earlier movie, and yesterday's The Lost Boys, as it not only has a werewolf, but it also stars Corey Haim! Without any further delay, lets get this full moon on the rise!
