I saw “Evil Dead” back in August and was thinking I should see the complete trilogy right away. But knowing that October was around the
corner, I decided to wait. Now that I’ve finally seen the second movie I can
now truly understand the amazement of Bruce Campbell. That man is a God in all sense, but more on
him later. Oddly enough, I still wasn’t sure what this movie would entail. It would
be only foolish to assume that the sequel is just like the first movie. So after the jump I kindly explain to you how much I enjoyed "Evil Dead 2"
To start off, we get a recap on what happened to Ash (Campbell) in “Evil
Dead” and continues on from there. Ash plays the tape of an archeology
professor as he recites a passage from the Book of Dead. This unleashes an evil
force that possesses Linda (Denise Bixler), Ash’s girlfriend. But he can’t run
far away as he is later infected. Don't worry though, because Ash puts up a good fight and cleanses himself from the evil. The
professors’ daughter and her friends come by to see the professor after an important
find that deals with the Book of the Dead. Now the five have to defeat and defend
themselves from the demons that run around in the house.

Bruce Campbell puts on another great role! |
Now I didn’t talk much about Bruce in my look at Evil
Dead, because I didn’t think he was all that spectacular. But in this movie, he is
more of a leading actor and it shows why there is a legacy behind him. For a
good part of the movie, he is the only one on screen carrying the movie along. And
my favourite scene and the one that he really shines in is when he battles his
own hand. Why you ask? Because he gets Dr. Strangelove Syndrome and proceeds to
eliminate him, this should give you a taste of how the movie turns out to be
like.

Talk to the hand, 'cause he has all the attitude. |
Similarly like the first movie, we have a horror comedy
that excels in both ways. I can’t remember a time I was sent through a
rollercoaster of emotions like I went through here. There is more than one moment
that I was laughing my butt off. And equally enough, there are enough times
that I was spooked. Granted, this isn’t a super scary movie but the thrill is
there. Though unlike the previous movie, we have a huge addition of action, and
boy was it entertaining. You name it, it was here; chainsaws, shot guns,
choking oneself out and of course beat a zombies with his own arm. Because of this
introduction of action, the movie felt a lot more face paced.
There aren’t the tradition zombies that we have known to
love, but what he movie refers to as a ‘deadite’. Similarly to zombies, a
deadite are undead humans possessed by an evil spirit. Unlike zombies, they
mutate into amazingly cool monsters with giraffe heads and 360 degree
rotational owl heads. So yes, they are scary and creepy. And we have only the makeup
artist to blame for that.
Thankfully the sequel doesn’t lose any of the cheese or
over the top feel from the first movie. It continues this with brilliance!
It brings the movie to a level of enjoyment that not a lot of movies can match.
It’s a zombie movie where you are cheering for death and blood with beheadings
on the side. Blood pours from everywhere. Limbs go
flying left and right. And a murderous hand to give a helping hand to the
action.

One of the more freaky deadites to be had in here. |
Overall the movie was a fun ride with twists and turns
all in the right places. We have all the ingredients to a great comedy movie,
with extra cheese. And the horror is terrifyingly good with moments that’ll
raise the hair on the back of your neck. Bruce is a man with a thousand faces,
he was phenomenal in “Evil Dead 2” and I can’t wait to see more of him in “Army
of Darkness”.
