Ghostbusters II

After watching the first “Ghost Busters” I was really eager to see the second one. Seeing that the movie was created almost 5 years after the first and the original cast was back. I wasn’t scared that this movie was trying to be cash grab. But yes, I could not wait to see what kind of hilarious situations the Ghost Busters team will get themselves into this movie. Click the Read More to get some spooky facts.

The story is kind of a downer; this movie takes place 5 years after the first movie and they have lost their business because all the lawsuits have cleaned out their pockets. Accusations of fraud, public endangerment and excessive damage have ruined their reputation. But the boys are forced to team up again when Dana starts to have ghost problems. But as they finally get back together, they are forced trailed and convicted for all the above charges. Luckily right after the court’s decision, a few ghosts drop by and stir some mischief up. After being freed from the law, the four have to yet again, save the day from the ghost in NY.

The cast might be the only reason this movie is bearable.

I am not sure what it was, but the story was just off. First you save NY from the terrorizing of a giant marshmallow and a few ghost. The next moment, you are being yelled at for being a fraud and others not accepting the fact the ghosts are even real! I really thought the story was forced on, and I did not like it at all. And sadly, this might be the reason why the movie was so boring for the first half of the movie. Nothing really amazing happens.

Wasn’t sure what it is, the movie looked like the original Ghost Buster. But it didn’t feel like it, there were no cheesy 80’s moments. The soundtrack was lame, plot was lacking and I wasn’t sure but the movie just felt sad. Even the comedy was almost non-existent. I was still smiling at anything that Ray did, but besides that everyone seemed flat and boring. And the movie was confused about what kind of movie it wanted to be. Sometimes the movie felt like a thriller and a scary movie, other times it was just trying to be over the top and goofy and I am okay with goofy. I really didn’t want Ghost Busters to be a serious thriller.

The sweet ride of the Ghost Busters.

But what I did like was the movie after the ball was rolling. And this was the part when they started to actually investigate what is happening around the city of NY. They figure out what the smile does, where it goes and what it is connected to. Finally the secret of the evil boss and his connections with Dana really was 80’s cheesy, but I do like that a lot. But again, at times they try to get all serious and it ruins the fun for me.

Overall, I really wish I didn’t see this and just left the impression of Ghost Busters from what the first one showed me. Yeah the cast and acting was good, but when everything else feels down, flat and just not spunky, I just don’t feel all positive watching it.

  1. I'm pretty sure everyone shares the same sentiments as you about this one, Puneet. I'm a little surprised no one warned you that the second one isn't nearly as good.
