The Rise and Fall of Jayne Mansfield Story

DVD_cover_of_the_movie_The_Jayne_Mansfield_StoryThis movie is a tad bit different than the usual Arnold movies that I have watched. This is a biography of Jayne Mansfield but in the form of a typical movie, and Arnold does the narrating for this movie. But again, Arnold does not play a badass action hero, more a love interest which is kind of a bummer. My full thoughts on “Jayne Mansfield Story” after the jump.
The movie starts off with the short glimpse of blonde bombshell Jayne Mansfield, than follows a short scene of her death. Here it begins at the start of Jayne’s career. We see her start off trying to get a small role, but instead of reading the lines given to her. She reads out a small improv piece. When this fails, she stumbles upon a persona that her agent falls for. She starts to put up this act of a ditzy, cute-sex symbol that everyone buys into. The movie proceeds to show her rise by using her intelligence and manipulates her way to the top. But nothing last forever, she slowly falls to her final death to your career, her marriage. Now she has to choose between her love of her life and her movie career.

The real Jayne and Mickey
Sadly the most annoying part of this movie is Arnold’s voice. I’ve always liked his one lines, and even his acting isn’t all that terrible. But there is no way he has the skill to narrate. His voice is to dry and his accent doesn’t set a serious mood. It is sad really, because the actual story is good and potentially interesting to listen to, if told by a decent voice.
But that is not all that Arnold does, he also plays Jayne’s husband Mickey Hargitay. I think he does a rather average job playing the role. Mickey really is the good guy in this movie, he is supportive and loving to Jayne. Even during her bad times, he is there to keep Jayne sane. But enough about Arnold; Loni Anderson, who plays Jayne, is absolutely stunning! I googled pictures of Jayne, and Loni is such a close duplicate. No wonder this woman was a sex symbol, she is drop down gorgeous, with her hour glass body and her pin up looks.

Jayne’s life can be easily described as an escarpment. Beautiful and stunning to view when going up. But the fall is rocky and deadly. As more and more people fall for Jayne’s cute girl persona, the more and more attention she seeks. Nothing seems to be good enough for her, she has a loving husband, a great daughter and an amazing career. But she is obsessived with ‘beating’ Marylin Manroe as the blonde beauty. Her sad decent of her career is rather depressing. Relying on alcohol to calm her down, being addictive to the fame and paranoid about losing her interest in the mass public was her vices. The film really does show you the up’s and down’s of her life.
To summarize, this was a fun movie to watch. I mean I really can’t complain about much. Joni is beautiful, the story is good and even though Arnold’s voice can get tiresome, his narration is limited. Sadly I am not too sure how correct this biography is to Jayne’s life. But as an entertaining movie, this sure fits the bill.
