After a busy, busy week, I finally had some time to watch some movies. And for some cosmic reason, I was real excited to watch "Bridesmaids". Now only seeing the commercial for it, I thought this was a light hearted, chick flick. And I was aching for a good summer comedy and this was the perfect match. Also the movie does star Kristen Wiig, who has been in “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Knocked Up” which I both loved watching. Click more to see if this movie fed my aching.
The story is about the bride-to-be Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) bridesmaids, more particularly the maid of honour Annie (Wiig). We watch as the bridesmaids get rowdy with all the premarital ceremonies, and Annie’s struggle to keep up with it all. Her lack of funds, feelings of losing her best friend and her struggling love life is all that is distracting her from enjoying it all.
To start off, this movie is not a chick flick at all. It has a lot of grotesque scenes and fart jokes, which is awesome. This leads the movie into a slightly awkward movie, but not a bad awkward. Not sure how to explain it, but I wasn’t expecting the type of humour that I saw. I was expecting some clean innocent jokes, and what I got was something out of a typical teen movie. But it was still tasteful, as tasteful as penis jokes can go. And most of the jokes are great; I was laughing throughout most of the movie and can say this might be the funniest movie out this year.

Annie checking out Lillian's new rock.
But the main reason why the humour is so good was because of the cast. Not only was Annie hilarious to watch, so were the rest of the bridesmaids. Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey), Becca (Ellie Kemper), Megan (Melissa McCarthy) and Helen (Rose Byrne) are all wonderful to watch. The chemistry between them is brilliant and felt genuine. But who I really liked was Officer Rhodes (Chris O’Dowd), mainly because I have this recent addiction to The I.T Crowd and I might have a huge man crush on him. But I still think he was great, had some great moments and I was cheering him on as he was trying to get with Annie.
Though as funny as Rhodes was, he was nothing compared to Megan. Dear lord she was funny, she was the more butch of the bunch, very aggressive and forward. Obviously because of this she had a lot of the dirtier jokes. Again, no complaints coming from me, this movie was just golden.
Glad I saw this and I think anyone who likes funny movies should too. And if you are a dude, don’t worry about going into seeing this ‘girl’ movie, because it’s probably more ‘manly’ than a lot of comedies out there now. It is also great to see the events before the marriage in the eyes of the bridemaids, because we have enough ‘bachelor movies’ and a lot of them don’t come close to being as funny as this.
