To continue on from yesterday’s movie, I saw "The Bourne Supremacy". All I hope from this movie is that they continue their fast pace action scenes with the phenomenal thriller elements. As long as they did that, they really can’t screw this movie up. Although noticing that the directors have changed could lead this movie to the depths, details after the jump.
The movie picks up right after the first movie; Bourne and Marie are living under the radar in Goa, India. Where Bourne notices another assassin is after him, and the chase begins yet again. This time it ends in failure when Marie dies by the assassin. Troubled with his loss, he seeks vengeance by trying to find out why they are still after him and free himself once and for all. He later finds out he has been framed for a murder in Germany, and the same USA CIA team that helped him, is yet again trying to arrest him.
Lanly is one stone cold woman.
So once again, everyone goes after Bourne, and Bourne basically outwitted them all. And just like the first movie, the action and mystery is amazing in this movie. I could easily rewrite the first movie's post into here because all of it applies. Though there is less of Bourne and more of the CIA element in this film, which I don’t mind. It is cool to see how their side is struggling to keep up with Bourne.
There are a few new actors and characters introduced in this movie. Pamela Landy (Joan Allen) is the head of a case in which a CIA Member was killed while doing an information swap with a Russian spy. And when she finds a lead that points to Bourne she is all up in getting him caught. She plays a strong, cold role and does it well; I strongly believed that she was a certain b word. The other big character was Kirill, who is a Russian assassin hired to kill Bourne. He is easily Bourne’s greatest foe of the series. From his entrance to his eventual death, he brought this hunter aspect into the movie and really made me feel that Bourne was the prey this round.
Bourne's sniper scene is intense to say the least.
Though this movie had a bit less cool ninja spy stuff from Bourne, it was well replaced with the gun fights. I rather the cool spy stuff than gun fire everywhere, but hey it wasn’t bad. And the car scene wasn’t as cool as the first one. It was less precise driving and more cars slamming everywhere and brute force, meaning that the car chase felt more generic and less awesome. But this wasn’t the worst part, for some reason they added shakey cam into this movie and it is noticeable. Bummer.
Even though Supremacy isn’t as good as Identity, it is still well done and an amazing watch. The Bourne character lives on as a badass, cold hearted spy with a new challenge. I really can’t wait for Ultimatum because I’ve heard it is the best one of the series and ends the series up really well.
I always get a kick out of the one fight scene at a former Treadstone assassin's place. Definitely get a visceral feel from that tussle.
